Generation 4 Digital I/O - Family Data Book

Generation 4 digital I/O, introduced by Opto 22 in 1989, provides increased density over older modules, while maintaining single-channel flexibility. LEDs and fuses are generally on the modules rather than the rack to make them visible and easy to service. The G4 digital I/O family includes a wide variety of modules, mounting racks, and accessories to meet the needs of your system.

SNAP Digital Input Modules

Optical isolation on these modules provides 4,000 volts of transient (4000 V for 1 ms) protection for sensitive control electronics from industrial field signals.

Digital input modules can sense either AC or DC signals.

All SNAP digital modules have removable top-mounted connectors to provide easy access for field wiring, and all operate on 5 VDC control logic. Each digital module features integral channelspecific LEDs for convenient troubleshooting and maintenance. Each module is factory tested twice and is UL and CE approved.

SNAP input modules are used to sense the on or off status for AC or DC voltages from such sources as proximity switches, push buttons, or auxiliary contacts. The SNAP-IDC5G is ideal for detecting 48 VDC in telecom applications. The SNAPIDC5-HT is designed for sensors that have a high leakage current.

SNAP Quadrature Input Module

The SNAP-IDC5Q quadrature input module is part of the SNAP PAC System. It mounts on a SNAP PAC rack and is designed to allow a SNAP PAC brain or R-series controller with high-speed counting capability (either a standard wired model or a Wired+Wireless™ model) to resolve two axes of rotating position information from quadrature encoder devices.

The module outputs a pulse to the SNAP PAC processor upon each change in quadrature state. The processor counts the module output pulses and keeps track of the direction and position.

The SNAP-IDC5Q can be used with most quadrature devices, including transducers with TTL, CMOS, and open collector outputs.

SNAP Digital Output Modules

Customers can choose from AC or DC models. Optical isolation on all solid-state modules provides 4,000 volts of transient (4000 V for 1 ms) protection for sensitive control electronics from industrial field signals.

All SNAP digital modules have removable top-mounted connectors to provide easy access for field wiring. All operate on 5 VDC control logic. Each digital module features integral channel-specific LEDs for convenient troubleshooting and maintenance.

SNAP output modules are used to switch up to four separate AC or DC loads. Output modules that are fused use a standard fuse with a convenient handle for easy replacement. DC outputs are available in either a source or sink configuration. AC outputs are zero voltage turn on and zero current turn off for transient-free switching.

SNAP High-Density Digital I/O Modules

SNAP high-density digital (HDD) modules from Opto 22 provide 16 or 32 digital input or output points in one compact SNAP module.

All HDD modules work with the SNAP PAC System, which consists of SNAP PAC controllers and brains, SNAP PAC racks, SNAP I/O modules, and PAC Project software. These modules can also be used in intelligent remote I/O for Allen-Bradley® Logix PLC systems.

SNAP high-density digital modules are ideal for OEMs and for anyone who has high point-count applications. The high-density point configuration reduces per-point costs of digital I/O systems by providing up to eight times as many I/O points in the same space.
